Yahoo! APIs

Welcome Hackers!

To make sure you come to the event prepared, this page will be used to point you to as many resources as possible with information that will help you to get the most out of Yahoo! Open Hack Southeast Asia.

At the very top level - the site with the most information is http://developer.yahoo.com/. This is the home page for the Yahoo! Developer Network and is the jumping off point for all things related to Yahoo! and hacking. If you want to get up to speed about what has been happening around the globe with YDN please check out our blog - http://developer.yahoo.net/blog/.

Now let's jump into the meat of things. YDN consists of many services, apis and frameworks to help you build web applications and websites. Different topics may be more interesting to certain people versus others but for this page we will highlight a few of them with some short descriptions so that you can quickly decide where to dig in.

FYI - if you just want to see the entire YDN stack, start here: http://developer.yahoo.com/everything.html

Indonesia is mad about mobile so you might want to start with Blueprint - the toolkit for all things mobile. Yahoo! uses Blueprint to deliver content and applications to millions of users on thousands of different devices. If your plan is to hack something for mobile users then start here.

If you are not focused on mobile but more interested in the web then by all means start with Yahoo! User Interface library - that way you can focus on cool features rather than how to make interfaces. YUI 3 was just released with lot of new goodies!

Care to SQL the web? Then you have to check out YQL - one of the most talked about pieces of YDN. Not sure what to do with it - take the console for a spin and then let your imagination wonder. YQL was quite popular in NYC. If the console is interesting and easy to play with then also take a look at Yahoo! Pipes - an innovative way to wire the web together visually.

Need content for your mashups? Look no further - Flickr, Music, Answers, Weather, Finance, Blogs, and now Meme.

Last but not list is all the location based goodies. Remember it is not only about Maps but you need goodies like Placemaker, GeoPlanet, and Fire Eagle.

That is not all of them but most of the services or APIs you might find interesting enough to build a hack around.

Have fun and cya in Jakarta!
